Complete strip down and overhaul of an antique Lantern Clock with a Ting Tang strike.
The photos show the clock pre-overhaul.
A ting tang strike works on two bells on the quarters. It strikes each bell once on the quarter past, twice on the half past and 3 times on the quarter to. The hammer strikes the hour on only one bell, the second hammer is held up and prevented from striking its bell.
The clock has a double fusee mechanism (that is where the strike and the time side runs off a fusee barrel.
The clock had not been looked at for at least 50 years and was in poor working order.
I completely stripped and overhauled the movement.
The hammers have been altered at some point in the past, they were best left as were. However the hammer stops had to be altered to allow the pin wheel enough run up to lift the hammers.
The clock is now working perfectly!
